Project Manager for Web-Based Data Collection (2015)

The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) Report System was developed to provide an application for Harvesters' agencies to accurately report their TEFAP inventory to the Harvesters and the State of Kansas. The purpose of this project was to modify the existing TEFAP Report System (version 1.0) to better prevent agency data errors.

The project team consisted of the Harvesters TEFAP coordinator, a PHP developer, and a project manager. Deliverables included verified TEFAP agency reports and Kansas summary reports, a modified TEFAP Report System, updated user guide, and updated video training. My role on the project included managing the work, writing the statement of work and specification, writing the user guide, and developing the video training.

Project started: 4/13/15; project finished: 6/29/15

Project Coordinator - Web-Based Call Center Application (2014)

This case study documents the effort to provide a web-based call center application to process inquiries for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP also known as Food Stamps) applications. My role was project manager and technical lead.

Harvesters’ Program Services department initiated a state-wide Missouri Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program outreach effort to provide information and assist with completing SNAP applications for potential recipients. The SNAP Outreach team needed a simple, low-cost call center application to handle the calls.

Project Manager for Harvesters Employee Website (2009)

This case study documents the process that Harvesters food bank followed to develop a long-needed employee website. My role on the project included: (1) served as project manager (2) documented site structure (3) migrated content (4) developed a training guide and trained 80 end-users and (5) perform ongoing, primary Sharepoint site administrator duties.

Project Manager for Volunteer Management Web App (2014)

Harvesters food bank, a hunger-relief organization with 120 employees, serving 1000 food assistance agencies in the Kansas-Missouri area, outgrew a Microsoft Access application to track volunteers. Essentially the old application lacked the capability for volunteers to register for volunteer events using a website, a common trait of volunteer services for many large non-profit organizations.

As project manager at Harvesters I was assigned to coordinate an effort to deploy a new solution to serve the organization. I served as both overall project manager, as well as lead technical resource on the project, overseeing a core project team with seven employees.

Website Developer for New Website (2014)

After the Harvest is a small startup organization devoted to distributing donated farm produce to area food pantries to feed hungry people in the Missouri-Kansas area. They formed the organization after breaking ties with a national organization, and they needed to set up shop quick. The organization with two paid staff needed an efficient way to communicate with volunteers, farmers, pantries and donors. Facebook and Twitter helped, but a website was crucial for After the Harvest to build their organization's following.

My role involved organizing a discovery session, gathering photos and text from staff members, selecting the WordPress site theme (Themefusion's Avada) and plugins (Timely's All-in-One Event Calendar, Mailchimp, others), building the image sliders, menu navigation and page layout. The project took about 1 month and 30 hours for two people.

Project Coordinator for Revised Website (2013)

A major revision to the KKFI website rolled out in September 2013 with several new features and styling changes, including audio archiving for on-demand listening to public affairs shows, a web-based LISTEN NOW feature, an updated "Featured Episodes" section, and music reviews by a new content contributor, Jared McNett. The goal of the revision was to attract more listeners through on-demand archiving and full podcasting. Each public affairs shows will maintain it's own "feed" available from Apple iTunes, among other sources.

My role involved gathering requests, communicating with content contributors, developers, artists and on-air programmers to validate function and style changes, and communicating with listeners and supporters about the upcoming change. The project took about 6 months.

Salesforce Implementation for Online Donations (2014)

After the Harvest, a new hunger-relief organization in Kansas City, wanted a solution to track volunteers, financial donors, farmers, and pantries in a single database.

My role on the project was to establish and execute a vision for a constituent relationship management (CRM) system that integrates with the organization's website that I built in August 2014. My work also included overseeing the Salesforce installation by another volunteer on the team, installing and configuring the Click & Pledge Salesforce applications, defining and testing online donation forms, then integrating the forms with the WordPress site.

Designed and Deployed Digital Display for Harvesters Volunteers (2015)

The purpose of this digital sign is to engage volunteers on a range of topics, including safe food handling, Harvesters special events, and volunteer activities.

    • This design incorporated a video background, time, date, weather, a live feed of visiting volunteer groups, and a main content zone for photos and videos posted by employees in the Volunteer Services department.
    • The tools used to design and build the sign include: Four Winds International's Connected Sign and Adobe Photoshop CC.

Designed and Deployed Digital Display for Harvesters Employees (2013)

To provide a more modern method to provide updates to employees the Harvesters Human Resources requested a digital display TV to replace the employee bulletin board. The old-fashioned bulletin board at Harvesters was a democratic and free space to share information, but times have changed. Digital display solutions are much like designing a web page, but with a higher expectation of relevance and fresh content since these units will be displayed in employee breakrooms.
    • I reviewed low-cost, effective solutions commonly used in public spaces like hospitals, universities, airports, well, just about everywhere nowadays.
    • Developed a basic theme and documentation for less technical staff to update information. The challenge is to incorporate active content relevant to employees -- Harvesters' Twitter feed, employee photos, weather, time/date, news.

Project Coordinator for New Website (2011-2012)

A new, interactive website provides a "second signal" of web content for KKFI 90.1 FM, a full-power community radio station serving a 60-mile radius around Kansas City. The website launched on Friday, July 13, 2012 -- yeah, we launched on Friday the 13th, a date most people would avoid.

My role on the project included coordinating and guiding the project through the station, discovering the station's needs and requirements, developing the request for proposal, reviewing candidates, coordinating a content team to contribute to the site, and overseeing the design and development. In addition to these tasks, I migrated content from the old site, developed a training guide for content contributors, and promoted the site launch across various KKFI media channels.

Publicity and Website Development for Conference Website (2011)

KKFI 90.1 FM community radio and Friends of Community Media in Kansas City hosted the national Grassroots Radio Conference in August 2011, offering participants from community radio stations to connect with each other, learn new skills, and discuss media issues.

The solution provided an interactive, online ability for conference organizers to collect workshop proposals, conference registrations and payments, along with sponsorship requests. My role on the project included branding, designing and building the website, as well as writing content for the conference, such as news releases, event flier, and building a following in Facebook and Twitter. Additionally, my work included testing and integrating the website online payment with PayPal for registration.
